The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from Sept. 29 through Oct. 4. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:
Tuesday, Sept. 29
11:49 a.m. Report of a past assault and battery. Police responded to a report of an assault and battery at the Stop & Shop on Mass. Avenue. The reporting party was a Stop & Shop employee who said that on July 14, she was training a new employee at the register, and a drunk customer came into the line. He was verbally abusive toward both of them, so she called the manager. Fifteen minutes passed, the reporting party told police, and the manager still had not arrived, so they called on the PA system again, and the manager arrived 10 minutes later. The reporting party stated that the manager told them if they did not stop speaking to the customer, they would be sent home. The manager also reportedly grabbed the reporting party’s arm, prompting her to pull away in order to break his grip. She clocked out of work for the day and left the business that day, but she continued to work at Stop & Shop until a few weeks ago. Officers advised her to go to the District Court if she was looking to seek charges for a past assault and battery.
12:07 p.m. Larceny. A general contractor from a Norwood company informed Arlington Police of larceny at one of the properties he was working on. He had been overseeing a project on Summer Street, but when he returned to the property on Sept. 3, he observed that several items once installed had been removed from the exterior. Those items included a heat pump system, breaker panels, and a water heater. Since then, new appliances had been reinstalled, and he was able to provide the names of the electrician and plumber who worked on the project. Officers contacted those parties who could provide additional information. They stated they had completed their original work and denied removing any items from the property.
Wednesday, Sept. 30
1:34 p.m. Fire investigation. Officers responded to the area of old Mystic Street to investigate a fire alarm. When they arrived on scene, they found an active fire with smoke coming from the rear of the residence. They entered through the basement, and not long after, the homeowner arrived on scene, stating he was alerted by his alarm company. The fire was determined to have started in the gaming room, where there were several electronics. The homeowner told police that no one was home at the time. The Arlington Fire Department is investigating the fire.
Friday, Oct. 2
4:24 p.m. Accident. Three vehicles were involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Alton and Warren streets. When police arrived, the drivers had pulled their vehicles to the side, and all operators were outside their vehicles. The first operator of a gray Toyota stated he was pulling into traffic from the side of the road when the Ford struck his vehicle. He checked traffic prior to entering the travel lane and did not see the Ford before the collision. The Toyota sustained damage to the front driver-side bumper, and the left tie rod had snapped. The Bronco operator stated she was traveling on Warren toward Alton Street when the Toyota pulled into traffic, striking the Bronco’s passenger-side front rear door. The third operator was a witness who stated the Ford was traveling 30 to 40 miles per hour, but that speed is inconsistent with the resulting damage to the vehicles. The tow was requested for the Toyota, but the Ford was able to be operated afterward. Because the Ford failed to use caution, she was issued a citation for failure to use care.
Saturday, Oct. 4
9:05 p.m. Larceny from building. Officers met with the reporting party in the lobby for a larceny matter involving two designer purses. The reporting party stated that her ex-fiancé purchased two designer purses for her before their split. Earlier that day, she went to the cabinet where she kept them, but both were missing. One purse is a small black leather purse worth $10,000, and the other is a Dior purse with prominent initials and an unknown value. She believes her ex may have taken the bags, but officers advised her to check with her daughters to see if they took the purses. She stated she has already asked them, and they said no. She gave no indication in her report of any forced entry into her residence. A report will be on file.
