October 15, 2026

The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from Oct. 5 through Oct. 11. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:

Monday, Oct. 5

7:55 a.m. Accident. Officers responded to the bridge on the Minuteman Bikeway over Pond Lane after the driver of a Waste Management truck reported that she struck the bridge while attempting to pass. The map showed her that she could fit under the bridge, but when she tried to pass, she struck it. She immediately backed up. The building inspector arrived on scene and confirmed the bridge had no structural damage. No one was injured.

2:54 p.m. Fraud. A reporting party arrived at the station to report fraud on his Massachusetts EBT card. At the farmers market on Sept. 30, he tried to purchase something for $7. When he gave the vendor his card, the transaction did not go through. The merchant asked for his PIN and tried the transaction again, and it went through successfully. When he went to make a purchase on Oct. 5, the card said there were insufficient funds. He checked his account and found a $1,900 transaction from the farmers market that day. He called the merchant, who said they had no record of that charge. The reporting party believes a skimmer was on the credit card machine used, so he went to the bank and filed a police report to clear it up.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

7:07 a.m. Accident. Two vehicles involved in a motor vehicle accident were found parked at the front of 795 Mass. Ave. The operator of a 2017 Lexus stated she was traveling southbound on Mill Street when she approached the intersection at Mass. Avenue to make a right-hand turn. She observed the 2024 Subaru in the left travel lane drifting toward her lane, so she swerved over, afraid the other vehicle was going to make contact with her. She heard a loud pop as her car hit the curb when she attempted to swerve. Her front passenger-side tire had blown up. The operator of the Subaru stated she was traveling southbound on Mill street attempting to continue on to Jason Street. She informed officers she drifted briefly onto the other lane but never came close to making contact with the Lexus. She noticed the Lexus operator aggressively pointing at her telling her to pull over so she did. They exchanged information and a tow service was called to fix the Lexus’ tire.

12:26 p.m. Destruction of property. Officers investigated a report of property destruction on Herbert Road. The reporting party stated that in October of last year, he had an electrical cord running from his house through his driveway for an inflatable pumpkin, but someone stole the cord. In December, he had another cord for Christmas lights, but someone cut it. He is filing a police report because he wants to put up holiday lights. He said neighbors in the area are installing security cameras in case it happens again. He suspects his female neighbor, who also has lights, may be responsible.

Friday, Oct. 9

9:21 a.m. Fire investigation. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Hamilton Road. When they arrived on scene, they spoke to an employee of a trash removal company. She stated she was emptying the dumpster into her vehicle when she heard a loud bang, with smoke and fire erupting. The fire was coming from a Dyson vacuum box. She tried to use a fire extinguisher, but it didn’t put it out, so she called 911. Arlington Fire arrived on scene and extinguished the flames. It looked like someone had thrown a lithium-ion battery into the trash, which may have caused the fire. The truck sustained no damage, and the matter is under investigation.

2:14 p.m. Larceny. Officers were dispatched to Broadway to investigate a report of a missing tricycle. The reporting party stated that her blue 26-inch adult tricycle was missing from the hallway outside her door. She always leaves it in the hallway because it cannot fit in her doorway. She last saw it the evening before, Oct. 8, but she has not seen it this morning. Officers searched the complex grounds and the surrounding area, but found no sign of the tricycle.

Sunday, Oct. 11

6:28 p.m. Accident. A 2020 Nissan was traveling westbound on Warren Street when it collided with a 2014 Toyota. The Toyota was traveling southbound on Palmer Street. When the operator failed to yield to oncoming traffic, causing the collision.
