May 6, 2020

The preliminary information suggests that the motor vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata, was traveling west on Mass. Ave. and that the bicyclists were traveling east on Mass. Ave. at the time of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Cambridge man, remained on scene. Two other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the incident; they also remained on scene.

After investigators found a loaded shotgun in the trunk of the vehicle, the unidentified driver was charged with possession of a loaded shotgun or rifle in the motor vehicle. The driver was licensed to possess the firearm. He will be summonsed to Cambridge District Court at a later date on that charge

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) will conduct the reconstruction of the crash.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Arlington police and State Police CARS.

YourArlington requested a police report earlier Wednesday, but was told the matter is under investigation.

The District Attorneys Office reported May 13 that the automobile driver’s license and owner’s registration are subject to “immediate threat suspension.”

Whether the the gun owner’s license is subject to administrative suspension pending the outcome of the investigation could not yet be reported.

This news summary was published Wednesday, May 6, 2020, and updated May 13, to add immediate threat.
