The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from March 31 through April 5. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:
Tuesday, March 31
3:17 p.m. Accident. Arlington Police and Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Country Club Drive involving a 2022 Chevy Silverado that collided with a telephone pole. The collision caused all airbags to be deployed while the telephone pole remained undamaged. The operator informed officers that he had been working all day just a few houses down from where the accident took place. When he began to drive home, he claims he must have spaced out because the next thing he remembered was putting the truck in drive and striking the telephone pole. He denied speeding or using his telephone. The operator declined medical attention, but a tow service was called to the scene. The matter is still under investigation.
8:32 p.m. Damage of motor vehicle. An owner of a 2025 Grey Volkswagen Jetta observed that the right passenger side taillight of her vehicle had been cracked, and there was a dent right above it. According to the vehicle’s owner, the only thing that could have caused the damage was a seven- or eight-year-old boy who had hit her car the day before, on March 30. At 2:40, she left her parking spot on Mass Ave to back up into another parking spot. She noticed a man and his son right behind her, causing her to stop. She described the father as a 6-foot-tall white man with a medium build between the ages of 35-40, and the son approximately 4’5” to 4’10”. As they passed, the kid hit the back of the car with an object, but she did not get out of the car to identify the object or the damage.
Wednesday, April 1
11:39 a.m. Accident. While patrolling traffic on Mass Ave. and Drake, officers observed a two-car motor vehicle rear-end crash involving a 2017 Toyota Prius and a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The operator of the Prius stated he was traveling east on Mass. Avenue when he approached Drake Road and noticed the vehicle in front of him had slowed to allow for a UPS truck to merge into traffic. After slowing down, he was struck from behind by the Corolla, causing damage to his rear bumper. The operator of the Corolla stated she had reached into her pocket to check for her keys, but she did not realize that traffic had started to slow down. She was unable to avoid the collision at this time. Due to the damage, she was unable to continue operating her vehicle. A tow truck was called to transport her vehicle. She was given a citation for following too closely since she was unable to leave enough space. Both operators said they were uninjured, but the woman remained in her car, saying she was shaken. Arlington fire and response was requested since the airbags of one of the vehicles had been deployed.
6:40 p.m. Accident. Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Chapman and Pleasant Street. A 2017 Subaru was found facing westbound on Chapman with mid-to-light passenger side bumper damage. Right behind the Subaru was a 2018 Grey Audi facing westbound, with minor front-end damage. The operator of the Subaru said he was traveling westbound on Chapman when he stopped at the intersection’s stop sign and then proceeded. The operator of the Audi was traveling northbound on Pleasant Street when he continued through the stop sign, contacting the rear passenger side bumper. Because he failed to yield to the oncoming traffic at the intersection of Chapman and Pleasant, he was issued a citation. Neither party was injured, and no vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.
Thursday, April 2
8:36 a.m. Larceny. A business owner made a report of larceny from her store’s safety deposit box on Mass. Avenue. The day before, the store owner discovered that about $1700 from the company’s safety deposit box in the back of the store was missing when she was getting ready to take it to the bank. The owner informed officers that all the windows and doors remained locked, as they are nightly. While the building’s cameras are not working, there appear to be no signs of entry. The owner left the store at 6 p.m. and returned at 3 p.m. on April 1. The owner suspects one of her employees who worked that day stole the money because she had heard them complaining about their working conditions. The incident is under investigation.
Friday, April 3
7:07 a.m. Breaking and Entering. A vehicle owner noticed that the lights inside his vehicle were on at 7 in the morning. When he went to check, the vehicle had been rummaged through, and the glove compartment box was left open. Officers checked the area for cameras and found one homeowner who had video footage of the suspects. Suspects arrived at Kensington Park at around 3:16 in the morning in a white car believed to be a Land Rover. Two more suspects exit another vehicle that arrives shortly after the Land Rover. Video footage shows the suspects running towards Kensington and going through multiple vehicles throughout the night. Officers also responded to another report from a vehicle owner on Norfolk Road regarding a break-in of their vehicle at 9:57 a.m. The owner’s car was also rummaged through, but his brown leather wallet with cash and bank cards was missing, along with an envelope of up to possibly $2,000 in cash. Home security footage shows a white SUV Land Rover with a black roof arriving on Norfolk. The male party exits the Land Rover, enters the owner’s vehicle and leaves with two arms full of items. Video footage shows a second vehicle, further down the street, with several occupants, who exited the car and checked multiple vehicles on Norfolk. The occupants of the second vehicle were found interacting with the occupants of the Land Rover. APD believes the parties in both vehicles were working together, and the matter is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
