When Arlington Police Officer Brandon Kindle got the emergency call for a woman in labor at her home, he acted without hesitation.

Just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, Arlington police received a 911 call from Ed McKinnon, reporting that his wife was in labor at their house on College Avenue.
Officer Kindle was in the area and immediately responded to the residence. He entered to find Audra McKinnon lying on the kitchen floor giving birth.
Using his training and experience, Kindle calmly talked McKinnon through the process as he assisted her with delivering her baby. Maeve McKinnon, 8 1/2 pounds, was born right around 5:30 that morning.
Shortly thereafter, the Arlington Fire Department and Armstrong Ambulance arrived on scene and transported mom and baby to an area hospital. Both were later released and are doing well.
“Officer Kindle did an outstanding job on scene,” Chief Julie Flaherty said in a news release May 16. “It was his professionalism, knowledge, training and quick response that ensured mom was able to safely deliver Maeve and keep both mom and baby safe until paramedics could arrive. He went above and beyond the call of duty, and we’re extremely proud of the job he did.”
On Friday, May 10, Audra and Ed McKinnon brought Maeve to the Arlington Police Department to thank Kindle for his help bringing their baby girl into the world.
“This was not a planned home delivery, so it was a kind of a scary situation,” said Audra, a mother of three. “Officer Kindle was able to remain calm and professional, which was really needed. We’re very thankful he was there with us.”
Kindle will also receive his pink stork pin.
