Leader Bank in Arlington Center was robbed Friday, Oct. 21, and Arlington police say they are actively seeking the suspect, who was last seen on foot.
He is identified as a black male, about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, wearing a Patriots hat, sunglasses and a blue checkered shirt, a tweet from town police at 2:42 p.m. said. He is shown in bank photo provided by police.
Police said that about 1:30 p.m., a man entered the Leader Bank at 449 Mass. Ave. and passed a note to the teller, which stated he had a gun. He then appeared to flee westbound on Mass. Ave. with an undetermined amount of cash.
Chief Frederick Ryan said through department representative John Guilfoil thatp olice are conducting an active search.
Arlington Catholic and the St. Agnes School had been sheltering in place after the robbery was called in, but police announced at 2:08 p.m. that the shelter in place had been lifted.
Dismissal from Arlington Catholic and St. Agnes will proceed as usual, police say. Students are being advised to leave the area.
Similar precautions were taken at Arlington High, Ottoson, Bishop and Thompson schools.
“I am grateful that no one was injured in this incident and that bank staff acted appropriately and performed their duties,” Ryan said.
