Arlington police, assisted by several neighboring agencies, have arrested two teenagers after an investigation into a robbery that occurred last weekend.
Sixteen-year-olds, one from Arlington and one from Revere, are charged with joint unarmed robbery and aggravated assault and battery resulting in serious injuries.
In a news release, police reported that shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 21, officers responded to a report of a man lying unconscious in the street. After locating the victim, who sustained a serious injury to his right eye, officers called for medical aide and an ambulance transported the victim to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the victim was walking in the area of Broadway and Foster streets on the night of Friday, May 20, when he was approached from behind by a juvenile male on a bicycle. The two got in an argument, and the suspect assaulted the victim, who sustained serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
During the altercation, the two suspects took the victim’s canvas bag, which contained his wallet and credit cards.
Arlington Police detectives reviewed surveillance video and credit card statements, and in doing so, said they were able to tie the two juveniles to the robbery.
The Arlington suspect was located and arrested on Thursday evening, May 26, and the Revere suspect was located and arrested Friday morning, May 27.
Chief Fred Ryan thanked the Cambridge, Revere and Natick police departments for their assistance in apprehending the suspects. He also acknowledged the hard work of the Arlington Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau on this case.
“The unprecedented level of teamwork and cooperation that exists among municipal law enforcement agencies here in Massachusetts helps ensure that suspects who run cannot hide for long,” Ryan said in the release. “I am very grateful for the hard work of our officers and neighboring departments in bringing these two juveniles into custody after a violent crime struck our community.”
The two suspects are to be arraigned at a juvenile court at a later date.
