UPDATED: More than 30,000 runners took the 26.2 mile journey through the towns of Hopkinton to Boston’s Bay Bay, when the city celebrated the 130th annual Boston Marathon, Monday, April 20.
This year, four Arlington residents crossed the finish line, as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC). Arlingtonians Ronan Campbell, Ian Jude Chio, J. Patrick Connor and Maira Marques Samary helped raise funds benefitting Dana-Farber’s Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.
YourArlington has reached out to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for a fundraising update.
Based on YourArlington’s records, Campbell and Marques Samary also participated in the 2025 Boston Marathon.
The DFMC is celebrating its 37th anniversary, making it the longest running charity team for the Boston Marathon. Runners who register with this team include cancer survivors and patients, and family and friends of those who have been affected by cancer.
Team members are required to fulfill fundraising commitments; invitational runners must collect a minimum of $12,000 and own-entry runners have a commitment of $4,000. According to a recent press release, this charity team has raised more than $140 million for the program since 1990.
Arlington resident Mike Palmer also participated in this year’s marathon, joining the team for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. This is reportedly Palmer’s seventh year running in the Boston Marathon.
