UPDATED March 18: The recent rough winter weather hasn’t stopped Arlington runners from training in snow, sleet, rain or dangerous winds. This year’s 129th Boston Marathon is Monday, April 21, and this year several local residents plan to cross the finish line.
Arlingtonians Ronan Campbell, Claire Ewen and Maira Marques Samary plan to take part in the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge, a news release says, joining more than 500 teammates from across the country to raise $8.5 million for cancer research.
Additioanlly, resident Deborah Solomon is running with “Spoonfuls,” an organization which provides surplus food to charities throughout the Boston area, including Arlington Eats.

The residents enrolled in DFCI challenge receive fundraising support, training guidance, along with team training runs. Challenge members include cancer survivors, patients, family and friends of those who have been affected by cancer. Invitation runners are required to raise $10,000 and runners joining the challenge after obtaining their own race entry (time qualified runners) have a fundraising commitment of $4,000.
These residents are members of this challenge during its 36th annual running in the Boston Marathon. 100 percent of the funds raised by the challenge teams benefits the Dana-Farber Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovatice Cancer Research, which supports promising science research in its earliest stages. To date, more than $132 million has been raised for this program through the marathon challenge
