UPDATED, July 15: Road resurfacing work is underway that will bring a fresh new look to Arlington Center’s roads, but at a cost to those who utilize the on-street and Broadway Plaza parking.
Traffic on July 14 backed up, but was moving along, as the east-bound vehicles were redirected to the west-bound side between the Pleasant Street and Medford Street intersections. The MBTA 77 bus stopped to wait for people as they were escorted by Arlington Police officers who monitored the construction crews doing road grating work.
The Department of Public Works has commissioned Newport Construction to complete the repaving of Mass. Ave. (Pond Lane to Medford Street) and Broadway Plaza. The work began Monday, July 14.
Utility work was done in at Mass. Avenue and Mystic and Pleasant streets on July 11, with Arlington Police directing traffic while the traffic lights were not functioning.
According to the town website, the paving is scheduled to begin with milling the existing pavement, which is projected to take four days before completion. Additionally, utility structures along the route will be adjusted and there will be minor curb work, which is expected to be complete within one week.
Residents can expect paving in the area and temporary striping, which the town expects will happen over the course of three days. The entire construction is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. During work hours, the town anticipates that both on-street parking and Broadway Plaza parking may be restricted.
Residents are encouraged to consider alternative parking at the Russell Common Parking Lot, at 78-92 Chestnut St. Police details will be on hand to direct traffic.
Additionally, permanent striping is scheduled approximately 30 days after paving and will take place overnight, according to the town.
