The Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee (ABAC) was the host for its annual BIKE-Arlington Tour Sunday, June 8, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Participants were invited to meet at 9:30 at the Hurd Field Parking Lot (off Drake Road, behind Trader Joe’s). The bike tour will end around 11:30 a.m. in Arlington Center.
The BIKE-Arlington Tour is free. Bicycle helmets are required, and all participants will be responsible for their own safety. Be sure to bring something to drink. The bike tour will end around 11:30 a.m. in Arlington Center. Steady rain will cancel the bike tour.
The easy-paced, family-friendly bicycle tour around town celebrates bicycling. It will pass on both the Minuteman Bikeway and local roadways. Officers from the Arlington Police Department’s Bicycle Unit will be present to help escort the community tour.
This year’s tour is planned in collaboration with the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture and will feature brief stops at public artwork displays in Arlington Heights, Arlington Center, and East Arlington — including local artwork commemorating this year’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
The tour will also include a stop at the historic Jason Russell House, site of one of the bloodiest battles on April 19, 1775. This year’s bike-tour route will include longer stretches of Mass. Ave. than usual.
