Mystic Brass Ensemble (MBE), Arlington’s community brass ensemble, opened its season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10.
The concert at First Baptist Church, 819 Mass. Ave., commemorates the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner’s birth with five pieces and also presents the four complete brass choirs of Richard Strauss. Organ and timpani will be included on original and arranged compositions.
Mystic Brass plans to release a commercially recorded album of the Strauss brass choirs, recorded this fall.
Bruckner was born Sept. 4, 1824, in Austria.
Audiences of all ages are welcomed for this free concert. MBE suggests a donation of $15, which can be made in person or online at mysticbrass.org.
According to its mission statement, under the direction of Andrew Heath, MBE explores raw musical passion for the great brass compositions of past and present in traditional and progressive programs.
