Copithorne
The town has announced that a current town employee, Bill Copithorne, has been appointed to the position of town engineer. This role performs professional engineering and management work relating to the design and construction of municipal infastructure projects and management of capital programs.
Copithorne held the position of assistant town engineer since 2016 and began his new role Sept. 3. He assumes this position from the previous town engineer, Wayne Chouinard.
“Bill is an outstanding problem solver with expertise in municipal engineering and a collaborative spirit,” said Michael Rademacher, director of public works. “He has been a very valuable asset to the engineering division for many years, and I have every confidence he will continue to provide excellent public service and leadership to the team.”
Over the last eight years, Copithorne contributed to many of Arlington’s improvement plans, including pavement preservation, curb ramp accessibility and sidewalk improvements. Additionally, he provided oversight of regulatory and reporting activities related to the town’s stormwater, sinitary sewer and drinking water system. Copithorne also co-authored the most recent update to the town’s stormwater management bylaw.
“DPW has an excellent team, and I am honored to continue to work collaboratively with them along with town staff, and the Arlington community,” said Copithorne.
Copithorne had been serving as interim town engineer since July. According to Public Information Officer Joan Roman, he is set to earn an annual salary of $126, 018.
Before his position with the town, Copithorne spent seven years working for a Boston engineer consulting company, where he developed plans for civil infastructure projects, completed construction oversight and developed water and wastewater improvement plans.
Copithorne holds a master of science degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University and a bachelor of science in environmental engineering and biology from Roger Williams University.
