Lowell Chamber OrchestraMenotomy Concert Series has announced its season of free Town Hall Auditorium concerts for the 2024-25.
All are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays at Robbins Memorial Town Hall, 730 Mass. Ave.
The first concert, on Sept. 6, featured the Lowell Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Orlando Cela. Pieces to be played:
- Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major with Katharina Radlberger as soloist;
- “La Balena,” by Betsy Schramm of Arlington, a world premiere commissioned by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra;
- Brodack’s Chandelier Reflections; and
- Korngold’s Suite from “Viel Lärmen um nichts” (“Many Tears about Nothing”).
The orchestra’s sixth season includes a premiere by an Arlington composer, and the musicians need your help.
Music of reflection

The orchestra opens its season with music that explores the concept of “reflection.” In this concert, whether it is the optical phenomenon, or the act of contemplation, music turns into lights, nostalgia and even gossip.
Featuring a new commissioned work by, from left above, Betsy Schramm, Cory Brodack’s winning works from last year’s call-for-scores and Katharina Radlberger, LCO’s concertmaster, as soloist.
On Oct. 4, Jesús Castro-Balbi, cello, Jill Dreeben, flute, and Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, piano, plan to perform J.S. Bach’s Sonata in E Major, BWV 1035 for flute and continuo; Foote’s Three Pieces for Cello and Piano; Debussy’s Sonata for Cello and Piano; Bell’s Serenade for Flute, Cello and Piano (a world premiere); and Cassadó’s Requiebros for Cello and Piano.
On Dec. 6, Martin Thomson, tenor, and Steve Yenger, piano, are scheduled to perform Schubert’s song cycle Winterreise.
On Jan. 24, Junwen Liang, pianist, is slated for Mozart’s Sonata No. 10 in C major, K. 330; Ravel’s Sonatine; Likhuta’s Rondo for Piano; and Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58.
On May 2, Letitia Stevens, mezzo soprano, and Bonnie Donham, piano, are to perform music by Samuel Barber and his circle, including Knoxville Summer of 1915, a selection of the Hermit Songs and opera arias by Moore, Menotti, Verdi and more.
