UPDATED Aug 23: In 2024, the Friends of Robbins Farm Park rescheduled the popular free annual concert jazz initially planned for July to August because of weather concerns.
“We are sorry to announce that due to the rainy forecast, we are cancelling the Jazz Concert at Robbins Farm Park, which was [initially] scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, but we are rescheduled for Thursday, August 22,” said an email from Anthony Vogel of the Friends of Robbins Farm Park. The concert starts at 6 p.m.
The performers were the Harvard Alumni Jazz Band, a 17-piece jazz big band with members from Arlington and surrounding communities. The concert will be at its usual venue: Robbins Farm Park, 51 Eastern Ave. This was the Friends’ 15th Annual Jazz Concert.
The concert was free to all, thanks to the generosity of the band, which includes neighborhood resident Allen Feinstein, a news release said.
Attendees were encouraged to bring their own picnic dinners. They heard the music of Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis and many other well-known composers.
According to the Friends’ Anthony Vogel, “Nobody has performed more and to such appreciative audiences than the Harvard Alumni Jazz Band — so, this time, don’t miss their 15th appearance at Robbins Farm Park.”
According to its website, The Friends of Robbins Farm Park is a community organization formed to promote the beautification, restoration and improvement of Robbins Farm Park, in the town’s Arlington Heights neighborhood.
