UPDATED, Nov. 29: The estimated $1.5 million state project aimed at improving how cyclists and pedestrians cross Mass. Ave. at Pleasant and Mystic got underway Monday, April 4.
On Nov. 29, the town provided an update from the state Department of Transportation District 4 for the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Mystic, including the Minuteman Bikeway.
The MassDOT and its contractor, J.J. Phelan & Sons, and the town Department of Public Works are coordinating road preparations in conjunction with the Arlington Center Safe Travel Project.
Work associated with the project is beginning to wrap up for the winter.
The last significant work items remaining for the project include the installation of new traffic signal equipment at Mass. Ave. and Mystic Street/Pleasant Street, Mass. Ave. and Medford Street, and Mystic Street at Chestnut Street, as well as new pedestrian crossing signals at Swan Place.
Once fabrication of this equipment is completed, installation can begin dependent upon snow accumulation.
If the weather is not cooperative, the equipment will be installed next spring. Upon installation of all traffic signal equipment, additional work items to be completed in the spring will include the application of pavement markings for bicycle accommodations as well as minor punchlist items.
