As of Tuesday, July 1, Arlington residents will have new options for travel between Arlington and Lexington via the Town of Lexington Lexpress bus.
The new Lexpress Route 1 will provide service between Lexington Center and Arlington Heights once per hour from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays. In seasons other than summer, the start time is 6:30 a.m.
Unlike the MBTA, Lexpress has no designated stops. Riders just need to wave the bus down as if hailing a cab, and the driver will pull over in a safe location. Once on the bus, ask the driver to let you off at your destination.

At Depot Square in Lexington Center, riders can transfer to any of the other five Lexpress routes that travel throughout Lexington and to the Burlington Mall/Market Basket.
Jeanette Rebecchi, Lexington’s transportation manager, said her office has received many requests for bus service to and from Arlington Heights and the new Lexington Community Farm (formerly Busa Farm, near the Arlington Reservoir).
The general fare (age 19 to 64) is $2 per ride.
The student fare (age 6-18) is $1.75. Seniors (age 65-plus) and riders with special needs pay 75 cents, but can also ride free from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Transfers between Lexpress routes are 25 cents.
For frequent Lexpress riders, a bus pass can be purchased at the Lexpress office at Lexington Town Hall or via mail. Books of 14 one-way Lexpress tickets are also available for $20.

MBTA fares rise
The MBTA reminds passengers that it has raised fares for bus, subway and commuter rail trips by an average of 5 percent. Effective July 1, bus and subway fares increase 10 cents, to $1.60 and $2.10 per ride, respectively, with the use of a CharlieCard, according to the T’s website.
Commuter rail prices increase from the $2-to-$11 range to $2.10 to $11.50. The increase is expected to raise revenue by 4 percent, while reducing ridership by less than 1 percent, according to the transit system’s website, mbta.com.
