North Cambridge attorney Dave Rogers, who won the Democratic primary Sept. 6 for a state House seat representing the 24th Middlesex, lives “literally three blocks from Arlington, and I love the town.” On the night of his win, YourArlington asked what role the town played. He responded Sept. 13.
As to his love for Arlington, he wrote: “Whether it is dinner at Za or coffee at Jam’n Java or riding my bike on the Minuteman Trail, I spend a lot of time in Arlington and have done so for many years.
“Folks in East Arlington are my next-door neighbors, and the people who live along Route 2 share the same concerns that I have.”
Arlington voters responded strongly to Rogers. “I believe because they recognize our shared interests,” he wrote. “I was blessed with a great team of
Arlington supporters and spent many months talking to Arlington voters, one door knock at a time.
“In addition, I think voters appreciated that I reached out to the many people who are working to make Arlington a great place to live to learn about the specific issues that affect the town. I also think that voters took note that, after studying those issues carefully, I advanced practical ideas to address them as a state representative.
“I’m lucky and proud to live in a place where voters decided that hard work and good ideas trump all else. Voters in all three towns of the 24th Middlesex District recognized that I will vigorously represent each and every constituent in the district.”
If he succeeds in the general election, he plans to hold office hours in Arlington, Belmont and Cambridge.
“I’ll listen to everyone’s concerns. I’ll attend every community meeting that I can. I’ll have a published personal cell phone number. Because we share the same small part of the world, and a commitment to justice and economic opportunity regardless of lines on a map, I will be the advocate this community needs and deserves.”
Rogers faces Tommasina Anne Olson, a Republican, and independent Jim Gammill, both of Belmont, in November. He won by 202 votes, and his campaign said newly added precincts in Arlington helped his effort.
Rogers received 2,291 votes, or 43 percent of the vote. Margaret Hegarty received 2,089, and Robert Reardon 914. Boston.com reports the numbers here >>
