The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from Aug. 27 through Sept. 1. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:
Thursday, Aug. 27
7:28 p.m. Reported break-in. A reporting party informed officers of two female juveniles who had broken into his home on Chandler Street. He stated the two juveniles were allegedly friends of his little sister, whom they had awoken due to the break-in. He believes they opened the door by poking a medium-sized stick through the mail slot to unlock the deadbolt. Officers also obtained a statement from the sister, who said she was asleep when the two entered her room and asked her to go to Stop and Shop with them. Nothing was stolen from the property, but the reporting party would like to press charges for the breaking and entering. This is now a matter for juvenile court.
Friday, Aug. 28
2:37 p.m. Larceny. An electric scooter at Homewood Suites, valued at $500, was stolen on Mass. Avenue. The reporting party is an engineer who works for the business. He stated that security footage from Homewood Suites captured the theft. Based on the videos shown to officers, the suspect is a white male in his 20s or 30s with facial hair resembling a chinstrap and a sleeve tattoo on his right arm. He was seen wearing a blue shirt and black pants with a yellow backpack as he rode away on the scooter in the first video. A second video later in the day showed the suspect returning in a black shirt, his face covered. He appeared to be looking for something he may have lost. This matter is currently under investigation.
Saturday, Aug. 29
8:51 p.m.Accident. Officers responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Broadway and Heath Road. The first vehicle was found on a curb on Heath Road with heavy front-end damage and a broken axle on the driver’s side. The second vehicle was found facing westbound over the curb at the intersection with passenger-side damage. The first vehicle’s operator stated she was traveling westbound with her sister on Broadway when a white van exiting Winter Street without stopping had come into her view. She attempted to stop but was too late to avoid a collision with that vehicle’s passenger side. She complained of neck pain, so she was transported to a local hospital. The operator of the second vehicle said he was traveling northbound on Broadway, but he could not see the stop sign due to poor lighting. He failed to stop before entering the intersection and colliding with the first vehicle. He was given a citation for failure to stop, and a tow service was called for both vehicles.
Sunday, Aug. 30
2:23 p.m. Accident. Officers responded to a report of an accident at the intersection of Concord Turnpike and Dow Avenue. Both vehicles were found facing westbound with moderate to heavy damage. The first operator stated she was traveling northbound under the bridge into Arlington when she came to a stop at a stop sign before proceeding. She did not see the other vehicle till the last second. The second operator stated he was traveling westbound off the ramp when he saw the other vehicle and slammed on his brakes. The first party to pull into the intersection was issued a citation for failure to yield.
Tuesday, Sept. 1
10:34 a.m. Breaking and Entering. A reporting party spoke with officers about a motor vehicle break-in on Brattle Drive. At 8:31 last night, she left her purse in her boyfriend’s 2012 gray BMW parked in the parking lot of Brattle Drive Apartments. The purse was black and brown with two handles and two wallets inside. The wallets, which contained Brazilian passports and health cards, were missing. Nothing else appeared to be missing from the purse or the car. This morning, she received a call from an unknown woman who had found her Brazilian identification cards near a Stop & Shop in Lexington, next to the bike path. She also received an alert from American Express about an attempted $56.99 charge that was declined. She went to Lexington to retrieve her bag and is in the process of switching her cards.
