The 38th annual Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, when hundreds of participants will travel the Boston Marathon course and raise funds to support adult and pediatric cancer research. This year, 22 Arlington residents will join the journey.
A recent press release named Arlingtonians Ellen Eisner, Erin Thomas, and Barbara Wagner as three of this year’s walkers. Each walker who registers is committed to raising at least $330 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (those under 18 years old are only required to raise $130).
Participants have the flexibility to choose from four distance options ranging from a 5K, to a full marathon.
In an effort to include as any walkers as possible, the Jimmy Fund Walk allows participants to join virtually, creating their own route and walking from any location or time that works for them.
Check-in for the walk and a “rolling start” is scheduled that Sunday between 5:30 am 7:30 a.m. at the Hopkinton Middle School (88 Hayden Rowe St).
Walkers can also participate virtually at a time and location that works for them.
Last year, the Jimmy Fund Walk reached a historic milestone, raising more than $11.2 million.
“Each year, the Walk brings our community together in a powerful way, with people of all ages supporting Dana-Farber’s groundbreaking research and patient care,” said Jessica Abbott, assistant vice president of the Jimmy Fund.
“For more than three decades, this event has been a celebration of hope, where every step helps fuel breakthroughs, support patients, and inspire progress.”
