The Select Board voted to authorize the town treasurer/collector to issue a $1 million bond that will allow Arlington to take advantage of an interest-free loan from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) to replace lead service lines.
Arlington is one of 60 communities that are part of the MWRA, from which the town and its residents buy water and sewer service. The “service lines” are the pipes that carry the fresh water into and the sewage out of the town.
Treasurer/collector Lynn Gallagher appeared before the board to explain the vote, which was originally authorized by a vote of Town Meeting on Article 54 on April 25, 2025.
The bond will be issued on Aug. 27, 2026 and will be repaid in 10 yearly installments of $100,000 starting on Aug. 27, 2027.
The Select Board voted 4 to 0 at its meeting on Aug. 10.
