7:40 p.m. Shoplifting. The manager of Walgreens at 324 Mass. Ave. reported a shoplifting incident to Arlington Police. The manager described the suspect as a male wearing all black with a black backpack. When officers arrived on scene they observed an individual matching the description outside the store. The manager stated she witnessed the party enter the store and head towards the back. Due to an increase in shoplifting at the store, she decided to monitor the party and witnessed him taking an Arizona beverage and put it in his backpack. The suspect stated he did not want to pay for the drink, but he returned the beverage before officers arrived. He was given a verbal no-trespass and will be sent a written notice to his address.

6:43 a.m.- Breaking and entering. A reporting party, who was a business owner on Dudley Street, informed officers of a breaking and entering at his office. When officers arrived, he led them to an entryway of the building that was next to the bicycle path. He said that when he arrived that morning at 5:45 a.m., he noticed the door was open, and the vertical lock bar was fully down. He had to teach some clients before he could assess what had been taken, but once he did, he realized a laptop was missing from his office. Because no other equipment had been stolen, officers asked the reporting party whether there had been a miscommunication with the employee who had the laptop. The reporting party stated that it was a trusted employee who would close the shop at four. When officers took a closer look at the entryway, there were no signs of forced entry or damage along the edges of the door. Officers requested security footage from another business that was in the same building, so the matter is under investigation.
9:34 a.m. Destruction of property. Officers arrived at a residence on Massachusetts Ave. for a report of a broken window. They spoke with the property owner, who stated he had been notified of damage to a side panel of a glass door that morning. It should be noted that a tenant vacated the space at 5:30 p.m. the previous day. According to officers, the damage to the 2-foot-by-3-foot window appeared to have been caused by something thrown at it. Officers found a bottle of Peachtree near the broken window, but it is not known if the bottle was related to the damage. A report number was provided to the property owner.

9:03 p.m. Fire Investigation. A 2009 black Subaru Outback was engulfed in flames parked on the side of the road on Massachusetts Ave. The vehicle owner was on the sidewalk, and he confirmed that no one was in the vehicle. Another officer arrived on scene to move traffic out of the area and position his cruiser to direct it around. Arlington fire arrived to hose down the vehicle and successfully extinguish the flames. There appeared to be a large amount of oil coming from beneath the vehicle. Due to the oil loss, the engine block overheated and caught fire. The vehicle owner stated he was on Pleasant Street for a DoorDash delivery, so he left his vehicle parked and running. When he came back, it was in flames. A tow service came for the car, but that matter will be investigated by the fire department.

7:15 a.m. Accident. A two-car motor vehicle accident involving a gray Honda HRV and a Toyota Prius occurred on Pleasant Street. Officers observed the Honda and the Prius both in the northbound lane with heavy front end damage. The Honda had front and side airbag deployment, while the Toyota had front airbag deployment. Both operators were found outside their vehicles and stated they had soreness from the airbags, but both signed patient refusals. The Toyota operator said that while traveling north on Pleasant, the Honda had pulled out of the parking spot. She was not sure if the Honda operator had looked in the direction of traffic, but she did not have time to stop before the collision. The Honda operator stated she observed the Toyota northbound, but she believed she had enough space to maneuver into traffic. A tow service was called due to the damage to both vehicles. As a result, the Honda operator was issued a citation for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
