The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from Aug. 12 through Aug. 16. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:
Wednesday, Aug. 12
6:12 p.m. Breaking and entering. Officers responded to a report on Parallel Street of a breaking and entering involving jewelry. Once they arrived, the homeowner stated she had left for lunch around 1 p.m. and when she arrived back at 4 p.m. she noticed the door of the tenant adjacent to hers had been kicked in. She decided to walk around the exterior of the house and noticed a jewelry box and a basket resting against the home with pieces of glass shattered around. Officers searched the interior of the home and asked the reporting party if she knew if anything was missing. She stated the jewelry box and three chains from her room and were missing. Two of the necklaces were costume jewelry but one of them was real gold and estimated to be worth around $300. There were no cameras in or outside of the home, but officers canvassed the area for any nearby cameras. While neighbors informed officers, they did not see anything, they asked a nearby homeowner for their footage which they were waiting to hear back from. Since the house’s backyard is adjacent to Mystic Valley Parkway, officers believe the suspect made entry through the backyard. The jewelry box was taken to the station while the matter is under investigation.
Thursday, Aug. 13
5:30 p.m. Injury on town property. A teenager riding his bike in the area of Hills Hill Bike Park had fallen and injured himself. When officers arrived, they found him lying on the ground on his back with his helmet still on. When he was asked if he lost consciousness, he said no, but his left side and hip were in pain. He stated he was riding his bicycle throughout the mountain bike area and he crashed into a tree when he attempted to go off the jump. Arlington Fire Rescue were able to evaluate him and speak with his parents on the phone. His parents quickly arrived to transport him to the hospital themselves.
Friday, Aug. 14
7:28 p.m. Breaking and entering. Several items worth hundreds of dollars went missing inside a home on Magnolia Street. The mother of the involved party stated that when she arrived home, she noticed two of her Coach purses, $250 in cash, and her spare keys for her Chevy Equinox were missing from her bedroom. After an extensive search of the house, she believed someone must have gone to the bedroom and taken the items. She and the involved party hadn’t been home for nine weeks prior. They led officers to the bedroom, where items were missing, and officers determined it appeared to have been untouched or rummaged through. When they looked through the car, it did not appear that anyone had been through it. Officers asked the two whether anyone in the residence had been there since then, and they said no. The mother’s brother-in-law lives in the second-floor bedroom. The reporting party stated that they had not been on good terms with the brother-in-law. He was not home at the moment to speak with officers, so the matter is still under investigation.
Saturday, Aug. 15
1:22 p.m. Motor vehicle larceny. Officers responded to a parking lot on Fremont Street for an attempted motor vehicle larceny. The vehicle owner stated she parked her vehicle in front of Fremont the previous evening around 7 p.m. When she returned to her vehicle, the passenger side rear window had been smashed, the steering column had been heavily damaged and the vehicle had been rummaged through. Additionally, a steering column panel had been removed and exposed while the ignition cylinder had heavy tool markings around it. She was unaware at the moment if anything was missing from the car. Officers believe the suspect had attempted to use tools to restart the ignition. They spoke with several neighbors in the area, but no one suspected any suspicious activity. An email was sent to Arlington to obtain potential surveillance footage of the incident and the incident is under investigation.
Sunday, Aug. 16
7:48 p.m.-Accident. A motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Bates Road, resulting in heavy damage. Officers found a 2016 black Nissan Rogue facing eastbound with heavy front-end damage, airbags deployed, and fluid leaking in the street. The second vehicle was a 2017 Ford Focus facing eastbound in the middle of the intersection with heavy damage to the front and fluid leaking in the street. The operator of the Nissan stated she was traveling eastbound on Broadway with a green traffic signal when she proceeded forward, crashing into the Ford at the last minute. Her front end had made impact with the front right side of the Ford causing her vehicle to bounce off to the curb of Broadway and Bates. She was confident her signal was green and that she had no distractions that would have affected her driving. The operator of the Ford said she was traveling southbound of River Street passing the Broadway and Bates intersection with a green traffic light. She proceeded but was struck by the Nissan on the right side, pushing her vehicle and spinning it to face eastbound. She complained of pain in her legs, chest and back area while her passenger complained of chest pain from airbag deployment. The passenger was transported to a local hospital. The Nissan operator complained of minor injuries including bruising of the right upper arm, but they signed a patient refusal. A witness of the accident was able to confirm the statement of the Ford operator. Because the Nissan failed to stop at a traffic light, the driver was given a citation for a red light violation.
