The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from July 22 through July 26. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:
Wednesday, July 22
12:33 p.m. Accident. The reporting party came to the Arlington Police Department with concern about a motor vehicle accident she was involved in on July 20 at the intersection of Draper Ave and Mystic Street. She stated she was operating a 2021 Gray Toyota Rav4 when she was rear-ended by a Gray Honda Civic. Both of the vehicles sustained very minor damage and neither party suffering injuries. Today, she was working to complete the crash form when she realized the plate of the Honda Civic had a registration listed as a different vehicle. When she showed officers the plate of the car that hit her and the registration that the operator gave her, it demonstrated some discrepancies. When officers asked if she had other pictures of the damaged vehicle or the other operator’s license, she said no. She described the other operator as a male in their late 20s, 6 feet tall, with dark hair and a Spanish accent. Officers attempted to contact this operator numerous times, but nobody answered.
4:50 p.m. Neighbor problem. A reporting party on Washington Street contacted Arlington police after being accused of stealing her neighbor’s packages. When police arrived at the residence, the reporting party explained that on July 20, the neighbor came to the back door and started accusing her of stealing her packages on the front porch. Officers were able to confirm that the two share a front porch and the back door leads to a shared hallway for the two residences. The officers contacted the upstairs neighbor to get input. When they contacted her upstairs, she was visibly upset and explained her frustrations to the officers. She said she had packages on Monday afternoon that arrived to the residence, but when she came back from work it was no longer on the porch. She stated her friend was in the process of moving and had left some of their belongings on the front porch. This matter is under investigation.
Friday, July 24
2:25 p.m. Injury on town property. Officers responded to a medical injury on Hemlock Street. Upon arrival with Arlington Fire Department, they observed a woman on the ground at the end of the driveway of a residence on Hemlock. It should be noted that Hemlock is under heavy construction, with the curbs and sidewalks are being redone. The injured party stated she was walking down the driveway when she stepped on loose gravel at the corner and slipped. She refused to be transported by Arlington Fire, but a friend transported her to a local hospital. Officers spoke to a contact for the company responsible for the construction work and they were given a report number.
Saturday, July 25
5:02 p.m. Larceny. A resident on Warren Street stated 10 peaches were stolen off of her Peach tree at the front of her residence. She stated the peaches were taken from her tree sometime between Thursday July 23 and Saturday July 25. She noticed the missing peaches because she almost picked them herself on Thursday. She noticed all 10 of them including two that had fallen on the ground, were missing on Saturday. She wanted to report the incident because the peach tree is closest to the garage at the end of her. This indicates that the person who took them walked up her driveway and took the peaches. Officers observed the ring camera directly across the street, but they were unable to make contact with the owners, so they will follow up on the matter.
5:25 p.m. Accident. A woman reported a hit run involving her 2019 Kia Soul outside of the parking lot of a Walgreen’s on Mass. Avenue. When she came out of the nearby Trader Joe’s, she found a gentleman next to her car who stated he had witnessed a blue commercial van side-sweep her vehicle while reversing out of his spot. The gentleman was nowhere in the area by the time officers arrived so he could not provide the van’s direction of travel. The Kia Soul sustained minor damage to the front driver’s side door. A report will be on file, but officers were unable to find any security footage of the accident after checking the area.
Sunday, July 26
8:19 a.m. Bicycle crash. A bicyclist on Margaret Street said that he was traveling on the Greenway coming toward the intersection of the bike path when he was struck by another bicyclist. Arlington Fire arrived on scene to treat the first bicyclist because he was complaining of rib pain. He was transported to a local hospital for the pain and minor abrasions. The other bicyclist stated she was traveling eastbound attempting to pass another group when the other bicyclists came out from the Greenway without stopping. The first operator’s bicycle was taken to the station to be picked up another time.
