Work on Minuteman Bikeway will cause detours, closed sections

July 21, 2026

A section of the Minuteman Bikeway, between Linwood Street and Lake Street near Spy Pond, will be closed to repair bumps in the path and other defects, the town announced in an alert.

Work will be done on Thursday, July 23, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bike path traffic will be detoured from the Minuteman Bikeway to Mass. Avenue, the town announced. There will be no parking on Linwood Street during the work. The rain date is Friday.

Also, on Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30, contractors will be conducting site preparation work at the Swan Place entrance of the Minuteman Bikeway for the installation of a wayfinding kiosk, the town announced. The work will partially obstruct access to the bikeway. “Bikeway users are encouraged to use extra caution near the work zone during this time,” the town said in the notice.

The work comes just as the Red Line has been shut down, from Alewife to Park Street, for 10 days. The MBTA and the town have encouraged commuters to consider using the bike paths as an alternative to driving into Cambridge and Boston. Just in time for the shutdown, Bluebikes is offering a discount on bicycle rentals in Arlington.
