The following is based on selected Arlington Police Department logs from June 16 through June 21. Excerpts from the Arlington Police Department log:
Tuesday, June 16
11:45 a.m. Fire investigation. An officer patrolling Buzzle Field on Summer Street noticed smoke coming from a side baseball dugout and went to observe. He discovered the smoke was coming from a metal trash can that was ignited in flames. The officer immediately contacted Arlington Fire Department for assistance but because there were children in the immediate area; he put the fire out with his extinguisher from his cruiser. Once Arlington Fire arrived on scene, they completely extinguished the fire and deemed it safe. The cause of the fire was unable to be determined.
9:02 p.m. Accident. The operator of a 2009 gray Toyota Camry was attempting to cross Mystic Street onto Winslow when he was truck by a 2024 Black BMW. The operator of the Camry stated he entered the northbound lane without issue and briefly allowed vehicles to pass from the southbound lane before be struck on the passenger side by the BMW. They both attempted to break before impact but they could not. The operator of the Camry was issued a citation for failure to yield for the right of way. Neither party was injured at the time of the incident.
Wednesday, June 17
3:42 p.m. Neighbor problem. A couple at a residence on Pleasant Street made a report about their upstairs neighbor after they have had previous incidents with before. They try to avoid her but when the neighbor came downstairs to pick up her mail, she punched the front door and started yelling expletives at the woman in the couple. The reporting parties had evidence of the encounter on a video on her phone which she showed to officers. The video also displayed the neighbor repeatedly ringing the doorbell for ten minutes nonstop. Once officers approached the neighbor, she denied the claims. Officers informed her they had video evidence which is when she admitted to her actions. They advised the reporting parties to keep their distance and informed them on how to get a harassment prevention order.
9:42 p.m. Shoplifting. An employee at a CVS on Mass. Avenue made a report of a repeat shoplifter. The suspect was described as a tall black man approximately 30 years old with a white sweatshirt and sweatpants. The employee stated the man comes in multiple times a day throughout the week. Today, he went to the snack area and grabbed what the employee believes ot be a total of $20 worth of inventory before leaving the store. The reporting party said the suspect was walking eastbound on Massachusetts Avenue when he left. Officers were unable to find him in the area. APD has received two other incident reports about the same suspect.
Thursday, June 18
7:51 a.m. Accident. Officers found a Kentucky registered vehicle and a Massachusetts registered vehicle at an angle stopped on Mass. Avenue after a motor vehicle accident. The operator of the Kentucky vehicle stated she was travelling westbound on Mass. Avenue with her right signal to pull into the parking lot. Before she turned, she was struck on the passenger side of her vehicle by the Massachusetts vehicle. The operator of the Massachusetts vehicle stated she was travelling on Grove Street and stopped at a stop sign. When she was attempting to make a right turn, the other vehicle pulled in front of her causing the crash. She did not see the Kentucky vehicle. Officer also discovered that the operator of the Kentucky vehicle was unlicensed. The operator was issued a criminal citation for unlicensed operation on a public way. Another party with a proper license came to drive the vehicle away. She also received a citation for failure to yield. Neither party was injured at the time of the accident.
Friday, June 19
1:43 p.m.-Accident. Officers arrived on Lowell Street after a report of a rollover crash involving an unoccupied vehicle. The operator of vehicle 1, a 2015 Subaru Forester, being loaded into a stretcher to be transported to a local hospital. The operator stated she had no recollection of the incident and stated it happened so fast. It appeared she was driving westbound on Lowell Street when she drifted close to a parked 2021 Honda CRV. It belonged to a resident who lived on Lowell Street. When she struck the vehicle, it moved at least 5 feet forward to the curb. As a result, her car rolled over and stopped in the middle of Lowell. The traffic unit is currently investigating this matter.
Sunday, June 21
4:04 p.m. Accident. A unattended 2026 Honda CRV was found with it’s hazard lights on in the middle of Pleasant Street after a motor vehicle crash. A witness stated he saw the CRV travelling backwards northbound on Pleasant street before it collided with a vehicle travelling southbound. He realized the Honda was unattended after the collision so he decided to open the door and stop the car. He shifted the gear into park, but he was unable to move the vehicle away from the roadway because the wheels were locked. The operator of the second vehicle, a 2017 Toyota RAV4 stated he was travelling southbound on Pleasant Street when he saw the Honda. Another vehicle maneuvered away from the Honda, but he was not able to do so before the collision. His vehicle sustained minor scratches to the front bumper. Officers identified the owner was a Revere resident, but they could not get immediate contact with her, so the vehicle was towed. Once they made contact, she stated she had parked her car at 12:30 to go to Boston Church of Christ and left it running.
