The Arlington Garden Club is working to ensure a new generation of gardeners help keep the community green and thriving.
The “Green Teams” at the Bishop and Dallin elementary schools have each received $750 from AGC to support the schools’ gardening initiatives.
The Garden Club, founded in 1931, is a group of local gardeners committed to giving back to the community and promoting ecological gardening practices through educational programs and public works. Recently, the club has released applications for grants to support gardening projects at Arlington Public Schools, which they plan to award annually.
This year’s grant recipients will use the funds to engage students in hands-on environmental learning through school gardening and sustainability projects.
According to a recent press release, the Bishop Elementary School plans to teach students in grades kindergarten through second about growing and harvesting vegetables. Teachers will draw on the Mass Life Science curriculum to enhance student understanding of plant growth and soil health.
Students at the Dallin Elementary school will create a native species pollinator garden – partnering with the Arlington Tree Committee to choose, plant, and maintain a native tree.
