UPDATED, April 24: Half a year has passed since residents said goodbye to the Arlington Goodwill Donation trailer, which accepted donations from the community out of the Stop & Shop parking lot (905 Mass. Ave.) for almost 70 years.
But those goodbyes were just temporary. The donation trailer has once again returned to its original location sometime in the last week. It was originally removed to allow for paving and parking lot improvements, according to the parent company of Stop & Shop.
According to James Harder, Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Goodwill, this re-opening was in response to the strong community support of he donation center.
“We appreciate the support of Stop & Shop in helping make this return possible, and we are grateful to Arlington residents for their continued support of our mission,” said Harder.
The trailer closed its doors to the public on Sept. 26, 2025. At the time of the closure, Goodwill and the town of Arlington had announced plans were in the works to secure a more permanent location for the donation center.
The trailer was quite popular. In 2024, area residents utilized the site to donate more than 2 million pounds of items, according to Goodwill President and CEO Joanne Hilferty.
