A total of 90 articles, including 26 submitted by citizens, were received by the Select Board’s office by the Jan. 30 deadline to be included in the warrant for the 2026 Town Meeting. The warrant, prepared by the Select Board, serves as the agenda, listing articles or proposals for the Town Meeting to vote on.
Arlington’s Town Meeting will open on Monday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium. The town will hold its annual election on Saturday, March 28. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Of those 26 citizen petitions, 10 relate to zoning, four seek bylaw amendments, six are resolutions, four are Home Rule Legislation, one is about the removal of a public shade tree, and one is for the disposition of real estate, according to information provided to YourArlington by Town Manager Jim Feeney.
Warrant articles considered for possible inclusion in the Town Meeting warrant must be signed by a petition of 10 registered Arlington voters. The other articles were submitted by town departments, officials, boards, and committees. The articles will be reviewed, and those meeting the legal requirements could make it to Town Meeting this spring to become a policy of the town.
Arlington has a Town Meeting form of government, which means that the budgets of the various town departments and articles on zoning changes or whether residents can keep chickens in their yards are voted on by Town Meeting members. Town Meeting in Arlington has 12 members representing each of the town’s 21 precincts. Town Meeting members are voted into office by voters in their own precinct and serve three-year terms.
Details of the articles were not released, but will be made public. There will be hearings by town boards, committees, and commissions.
