The Arlington Catholic High School community is grieving after the tragic loss of 15-year-old student Matthew Driscoll, who died on Tuesday, Jan. 13, from cancer.
Driscoll, a Woburn resident, was a sophomore and a member of the class of 2028. Friends and community members took to the online obituary page to comment on the young man’s courage in battling the illness from a young age. The community remembers Driscoll as a loving son, nephew, cousin, soccer teammate, and caretaker of his beloved dog, Shamrock.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, and we hold them close in our prayers during this time of unimaginable loss,” Arlington Catholic said in a statement. The school announced Driscoll’s death on Thursday, Jan. 15.
The family will be holding a wake to honor Driscoll Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home on 263 Main St. in Woburn, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22 at St. Raphael Church on 512 High St. in Medford.
The family is requesting donations be made to the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Additionally, the family has noted the importance of donating blood or platelets, and encouraged those who are able to, to consider donating the life-saving gifts, which are critical for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
