Mary O’Malley, Imaginarium, gouache on paperUPDATED June 27: Arlington’s 13Forest Gallery (167A Mass. Ave.) invites residents to view its current exhibition, “Imaginarium,” a series of vibrant paintings by artist Mary O’Malley, which seek to showcase the enchantment of nature through joyful, idealized depictions of flora and fauna.
On Saturday, June 28, the O’Malley is scheduled to visit the gallery for a conversation with the artist from 4 to 6 p.m. “Magical Thinking” will talk about her artwork and inspirations with viewers.
According to the gallery website, this artist intentionally creates with vibrant color and ornamentation, making paintings that she calls “unapologetically pretty,” in order to reclaim subjects and styles often deemed “too feminine” to be taken seriously.

According to the gallery website, O’Malley began each of these works with a longing to connect with nature; however, instead of recreating the world around her, she saught to amplify the beauty in nature through saturated colors, pattern and symmetry.
