UPDATED May 5: More than 100 painters from the Arlington community descended on the Heights business district over May 3 weekend to paint 51 storefront windows in 24 businesses.
This event was the fourth-annual Heights’ window painting. Designs must have a spring theme — flowers, trees, birds, insects, etc. Painters were encouraged to go beyond painting the beauty of spring blooms by including simple messages and/or steps that people can take to protect our environment and promote ecodiversity in their yards and townwide.
The painters represent all ages, but increasingly more are school-aged children (elementary through high school) budding artists collaborating with their friends and parents, wrote Janet O’Riordan, who provided publicity.
For many, this has become a family tradition since first starting in 2021. This community-building event is sponsored by the Arlington Heights Community Association with support from the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
Three Heights window-painting events take place each year (Halloween, winter and spring), and all residents and individuals attending Arlington schools are welcome to participate. These vibrant and colorful paintings are expected to be on display through mid-June.
The AHCA is a group of Heights business owners, residents and nonprofits who meet monthly to address local issues and concerns, support beautification projects and organize public events in the Heights, such as three seasonal window paintings and the Holiday Stroll.
