OCT. 24 CONCOM HEARING:
- DEP #091-0356: Notice of Intent: Thorndike Place (Continued from Sept. 5) – a public hearing under the Wetlands Protection Act to consider a Notice of Intent for the construction of Thorndike Place, a multifamily development on Dorothy Road in Arlington. Areas proposed to be altered include Buffer Zone to Bordering Vegetated Wetland and Bordering Land Subject to Flooding associated with Alewife Brook.
The Coalition to Save the Mugar Wetlands, a group long supporting protecting the wetlands from development, said in an email Oct. 22 that this hearing may be the last for the Conservation Commission on the proposed Thorndike Place project before it makes a final decision.
The Arlington Land Trust, a nonprofit, that favors protecting the wetland, reports in its newsletter:
“The Commission has received the peer review report from GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc. and revised stormwater calculations from BSC, the consultant for the Applicant (Arlington Land Realty LLC), as part of its review of the notice of intent for Thorndike Place under the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act. The commission hired GZA in June as a third-party reviewer to provide additional geohydrologic expertise on the project’s compliance with regulations outlined in the Massachusetts Stormwater Handbook and Stormwater Standards.
As documented in previous hearings, the Land Trust, through its hydrology consultants, Scott Horsley, and Michael Mobile/MMA, has also provided information from their respective groundwater monitoring and stormwater mounding analyses.
The commission’s Thorndike Place Wetlands Permit web page hosts the recent GZA and BSC reports along with previous peer review and consultants’ reports, public comments, and other correspondence regarding the hearing.
