The Arlington Historical Society commemorated the bicentennial of Gen. Marquis de Lafayette’s momentous tour of the Revolutionary War battlegrounds on Labor Day.
The event took place Monday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at 7 Jason St. in Arlington, the home of the historical society.
Tho occasion features a “meet-and-greet” with a Lafayette reenactor, who will bring to life his legacy by recounting his significant contributions to the American Revolution.
Matt Beres, executive director of the historical society and museum director, does not know who the reenactor is.
The society will also be offering free admission for guided tours of the historic Jason Russell house, light refreshments, and a special, one-day-only exhibition that highlights Lafayette’s historic visit to the region.
Lafayette was only 19 years old when he joined the American Revolution. When he visited the United States, he was 67; he died 10 years later.
The event is sponsored by the Louise Ivers Education Fund and is in conjunction with the American Friends of Lafayette.
