In addition, Zero Waste Arlington plans to host another free water truck at Town Day on Sept. 21 so that residents can quench their thirst while enjoying the event.
Program began with bottled water ban
The Arlington on Tap initiative started in 2022 after the passage of a town bylaw prohibiting the retail sale of single-use plastic water bottles under one liter. Arlington took this action because single-use water bottles have contributed to the public health and environmental crisis. Zero Waste Arlington keeps a map of indoor and outdoor refill stations on its website.
The Arlington on Tap campaign is one of Zero Waste Arlington’s many efforts to reduce plastic waste in the Arlington community. Others include the ongoing “Reduce Single-Use” partnership with restaurants to reduce waste, the 2022 single-use water-bottle ban and the 2019 polystyrene ban. The Town Committee is also actively working to reduce textile and organic waste in Arlington.
