The Redevelopment Board has approved a plan aimed at reshaping the Capitol Square block that used to have a historic bank that became two restaurants.
At its Feb. 27 meeting, the board voted, 3-1, with Eugene Benson in the negative, to support the plan for Mass. Ave. at Lake, a four-story mixed-use building.
Benson called it a good project, but he voted no, saying he didn’t think the transportation-management plan fit the bylaw and that the development needs an added affordable unit.
For developer Frank Pasciuto, approval came after two hearings. His company has developed the mixed-use developments across from Arlington High School and in the Medford Street block across from the Regent Theatre. Work on the latter plan continues.
Before the Feb. 27 approval, new materials accompanied a document responding to each item the board raised during the January hearing. They included providing more bicycle parking than required.
In other business, the board heard an update about the open-space plan and reviewed the schedule of meetings before the annual Town Meeting.
