UPDATED Feb. 17: Arlington Observes Black History Month by celebrating black business through history.
Black-history banners have returned along Mass. Ave. throughout town, and the Arlington Human Rights Commission, and the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture are hosting an artist talk on Saturday, March 4, from 1 to 3 p.m., featuring the winners of the Black History Month banner contest and a black owned business pop-up.

After a call went out to artists of color for the design of banners highlighting black entrepreneurship and business, two artists were chosen for this project — Remi Antunes and Malik Harding, at right.

The Arlington Human Rights Commission had sought proposals from artists who are black, indigenous and people of color for a series of banners exploring and celebrating the history of black business achievement in the United States, New England and/or greater Boston.
Proposals for creation of the banners were due Wednesday, Jan. 25, at midnight.
The selected artist will receive $1,000 for six designs, which will be displayed along Mass. Ave. in Arlington during February and also will be featured on social media.
This effort is co-sponsored by the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture.

Call for artists: Solo exhibit at Roasted Granola; deadline Feb. 13
The artist selected must be an existing ArtLinks member or be willing to enroll as a member of the organization.
The group accepts Arlington artists and artists working in surrounding communities.
Call is for wall art-paintings, photographs, prints, and other 2D work.
Exhibit runs from March 6 through May 30. Please visit Arts Arlington here for application information. The deadline is 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13.
