Also vying for the top spot in Reading are Thomas Milaschewski, superintendent resident (concurrent with doctoral studies) for the Medford Public Schools, and Stephen J. Zadravec, superintendent for the Portsmouth, N.H., School Department.
The Reading School Committee voted Jan. 28 to reduce the candidate pool to three finalists.

Throughout his years in Arlington, Janger played a key role in planning the new high school, aiming for completion in 2024, and supporting the public appeals that led to its funding.
The 56-year-old also led initiatives focused on diversity, inclusivity, student support and technology.

Janger, with degrees from Michigan, Yale and Williams, was previously principal of Mount Desert Island High School in Maine and was an English teacher and a principal in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The next Reading superintendent will take over June 30.
This news breaks as Arlington has hired a new superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Homan, who is coming from Waltham. She plans to begin a transition period here Feb. 22, as she works with Dr. Kathleen Bodie, who is retiring in June.
In announcing the appointment to AHS in February 2013, Bodie wrote: “Dr. Janger brings to his new role strong administrative and teaching experience, as well as a deep understanding of best educational practices in schools. He has a thoughtful, approachable leadership style and a good sense of humor.”
