The Boston Globe annually recognizes all-scholastic athletes for the preceding winter, and the current list has a number of Arlington names.
Two were named Athlete of the Year. One was Arlington High School junior Anthony Messuri, playing boys’ hockey.
“Underestimate the 5-foot-7, 156-pound junior at your own peril,” the Globe wrote April 7. “Now a two-time Middlesex League All-Star, Messuri helped the Spy Ponders to their fourth straight Super 8 appearance, posting 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points while playing for his father, John. “
The second was Ryan Oosting, in AHS boys’ track.
“The Stanford-bound senior is reigning Globe Athlete of the Year for cross-country and outdoor track dominated long distance once again. Oosting claimed All-American status in the 2-mile and cruised to championships at the All-State (9:04.89) and Division 2 (9:25.48) meets.”
