UPDATED, Aug. 17: Spy Pond in Arlington was chemically treated Monday, Aug. 13, with the U.S.-registered herbicide Tribune (diquat) to control nuisance aquatic vegetation.
The pond was closed to all water uses — including boating, fishing, and swimming — on the day of treatment only.
Use of pond water for livestock watering is prohibited for one day, or until Aug. 14; for drinking and cooking for two days, or until Aug. 15; and for irrigation for five days, or until Aug. 18.
These water-use restrictions will be posted with printed signs, placed around the pond shoreline, before application.
The project is being performed for the Town of Arlington, under a license (permit) issued by the state Department of Environmental Protection and an order-of-conditions permit from the Arlington Conservation Commission.
