The annual Arlington High School alumni hockey game scored for a special occasion: This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1967 state championship team.
The game was held Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Ed Burns Arena. A ceremony was held honor members of the 1967 team.
The state title that year was the fourth for legendary head coach Ed Burns, at left in an undated photo. The 1967 squad was the only AHS hockey team to finish undefeated at 19-0-0. The seniors had a Greater Boston League record of 41-0-1.
Arlington hockey has won six state titles overall — 1947, 1949, 1959, 1964, 1967 and 1971.
Players were asked to check in at 2 p.m. in the main lobby. Arlington alumni players were asked to make a donation of $100.

In December 2010, as Arlington celebrated the renaming of its Summer Street hockey rink in honor of legendary coach Ed Burns, one who played for Burns recalled the background of a photo in a Boston.com story.
The caption for the story’s photo does not say when the shot of Burns was taken or where or what was occurring, so the public was asked.
Answering the query about the photo was Joe Bertagna, then a Hockey East commissioner who played hockey for Burns. On Christmas Eve 2010, he wrote:
“The two players to Eddie’s left are Bernie Quinlan and Tony Lyons, two of my AHS ’69 classmates.
“We didn’t get to the [old Boston] Garden in 1969. So it is either 1967 or 1968 at the Garden. I believe it is from our junior year, 1968, when we won the eastern Mass title, beating Melrose, Needham and Norwood in succession. Bernie and Tony played more that year.”
