By one point. That’s how close AHS Jazz Band came to finishing in first in the in the 46th Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The group’s score was 272 out of 273 points, wrote Pasquale Tassone, interim director of performing arts, for the Arlington public schools.
In addition, Conner Duke won the “Superior Musicianship Award.” Berklee gave only one for each category.
Bennett Parsons won an “Outstanding Musicianship Award.” Three were presented among all the 14 bands in that category, among 342 students.
The band, conducted by Tino D’Agostino, competed with 14 other schools of similar size from states as far as Pennsylvania and Florida.
The band prepares to embark on its European tour over the February break.
