A long-abandoned home at 8 Newman Way, once the residence of hoarders, was demolished Thursday, April 18, to make way for a fully rebuilt home.
“In an unusual move,” wrote Arlington videographer Glenn Koenig, “they took down the house with most of the contents still inside …. It was sad to see.”
Others who may not have been saddened were some neighbors who were part of a petition drive last year. They called the home abandoned and said that it had been “allowed to rot” for at least seven years.
Christine Connolly, town director of health and human services, said Monday, April 22, said her office did not condemn the property, because no one was living in the home.
“However, people were breaking into the home and loitering, so we had the windows and doors boarded up due to the dangers within the home,” she wrote.
“The owners of the home were hoarders, but a few years ago they picked up and moved out of state.”
The new owner, she said, is Keith Lombardi.
An April 17 permit to demolish the house, just off Mass. Ave. near Anderson Florists, said Francis A. Lattarulo of Brogan Construction paid $300 for the structure valued at $15,000.
