The state attorney general’s office has ruled that the bylaw amendments restricting leaf blowers passed by Town Meeting last May “are consistent with the Constitution and laws of the Commonwealth, and thus consistent with the Town’s Home Rule power.”
In an Oct. 17 letter to Town Clerk Stephanie Lucarelli, Margaret J. Hurley, assistant attorney general, wrote that the office could not address the arguments brought by the Arlington Landscape Association seeking to overturn the bylaw.
The letter also says the town complied with procedural requirements regarding the amendments to Article 25 after landscapers alleged otherwise.
On Oct. 10, a Special Town Meeting in a rare roll-call voted to form a committee to deal with the issue and report by next year. The vote was 110 opposed and 95 in favor. How they voted >>
