UPDATED June 3: The public was invited to join town officials for the annual Memorial Day ceremony, which paid tribute to the town's fallen service members and Gold Star families.

The ceremony was held in theTown Hall Auditorium on Monday, May 29.

Doors were to open to the public at 9 a.m., with the ceremony beginning promptly at 9:30.

Director of Veterans Services Jeffrey Chunglo to receive proclamation

In a related matter, on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, Arlington plans to honor retired Director of Veterans’ Services Jeffrey A. Chunglo with a proclamation, unanimously approved by the Select Board at its May 22 meeting. 

This statement declares June 1, 2023, as Jeffrey Chunglo Day in Arlington, thanking him for his “bravery, service, and sacrifice on behalf of the town and its residents.”

Select Board members comment

Diane Mahon: “Jeff went above and beyond the position he held, not just for the veterans in town, but the entire state and region. He operated as an unsung hero, and got people the help they needed.”

Vice Chair John Hurd: “I was impressed with Jeff’s creative events during the pandemic to honor veterans. He didn’t let pandemic affect his job or duty to honor Arlington’s veterans.”

Steve DeCourcey: “Jeff will be sorely missed. He coordinated the distribution of masks during the pandemic. This is a well-deserved honor.”

Len Diggins: “I enjoyed working with Jeff. He pulled together an educational program for veterans.”

Chair Eric Helmuth: “I never heard anything negative about Jeff.”
