Under statute, the board has 30 days to open the hearing. The Open Meeting Law requires advertising twice in the local paper of record. The application has also been distributed to town departments, boards, and commissions as required. Once the hearing opens, the board has 180 days to close the public hearings.
Project could face opposition
The developer proposes “The Residences at Mill Brook,” a 50-unit multifamily development and 1,000 square feet of commercial space on the north side of Mass. Ave., northwest of the Highland Fire Station.
The Maggiore Co. of Woburn intends to create 13 affordable homeownership units as part of the four- to five-story building envisioned, an endeavor consistent with many town goals. However, the development also likely would require some tree removal, which historically has proved controversial in Arlington. Other residents might express concern about a potential increase in motor-vehicle traffic from more people living in the area than before.

"The Zoning Board of Appeals gives notice that it will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The hearing will be conducted remotely via "Zoom" to consider the application of 1025 Mass. Ave., LLC for the approval of a comprehensive permit under M.G.L. Chapter 408, Sections 20-23 and the regulations promulgated thereunder, 760 CMR 56.00 et seq, for the construction of a structure at 1021-1025 Mass. Ave., Arlington.
