How Arlington voted in Sept. 6 primary

UPDATED Sept. 8: The Town of Arlington has released its unofficial election results for contested races in the primary election on Tuesday. Sept. 6.

According to the town clerk, 32.5 percent, or 10,461, of Arlington’s 32,120 registered voters cast ballots in the Sept. 6 election. The results:

Democratic primary


Sonia Chang-Diaz: 928
Maura Healey: 8,160

Lieutenant Governor

Kimberley Driscoll: 3,933
Tami Gouveia: 2,282
Eric P. Lesser: 2,346

Attorney General

Andrea Campbell: 5,380
Shannon Liss-Riordan: 2,385
Quentin Palfrey: 1,140

Secretary of State

William Galvin: 5,396
Tanisha Sullivan: 3,597

Christopher Dempsey: 4,631
Diana DiZoglio: 3,622

Governor's Council

Marilyn Petitto Devaney: 3,752
Mara Dolan: 4,033

Republican primary


Geoff Diehl: 564
Chris Doughty: 640

Lieutenant Governor

Leah Allen: 501
Kate Campanale: 544

Facing off in the November general election for governor will be Democrat Maura Healey and Republican Geoff Diehl. Other winners:

Lieutenant governor: Kim Driscoll (D) and Leah Allen (R)*;

Attorney general: Andrea Campbell (D) and Jay McMahon (R)

Secretary of state: William Galvin (D) and Rayla Campbell (R);

Auditor: Diana DiZoglio (D) and Anthony Amore (R).

*Allen leads Kate Campanale, though the race had not yet been called as of 7:30 a.m. Sept. 7.

In Arlington, in-person voters noted that it was the first day of classes at local public schools, and a town announcement advised voters to follow signs to enter each building. The voter entry pattern was different this year for the Stratton and Bishop elementary schools. At Stratton, voters entered on the playground side and at Bishop at the front door. 

The deadline to return vote-by-mail ballots was 8 p.m., when the polls closed.
