UPDATED Sept. 21: 13Forest Gallery, at 167A Mass. Ave. in East Arlington, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, is the scheduled time for the closing reception for As Luck Would Have It, including a performance by R. Galvan.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m., art lovers may attend the opening reception for Little Light, featuring Eben Haines, Brooke Stewart and Chelsea Lyons Teta.
Cashing Out: Join us Sept. 22 for a closing reception for our current exhibition As Luck Would Have It. At the reception one of the featured artists, R. Galvan, will complete a performance piece that has run for the duration of the show.
Throughout "As Luck Would Have It," a ceramic piggy bank was on display. Visitors left change in the bank and were able to take home a print. At the reception, Galvan will smash the piggy bank, use the money collected to buy a lottery ticket at the convenience store across the street, and then return to the gallery to complete a balance sheet (framed above the bank) documenting their winnings or losses. Following Galvan's performance around 6:30, we will hold a reception where guest Tarot reader Zoe Burnett will offer readings using Dorian Keeffe's Bleeding Heart Tarot on a first come, first served basis.

"Whether we believe good (or bad) fortune is pure happenstance or a force that can be conjured, it is often a potent part of the stories we tell about ourselves and the world. From lucky charms and black cats crossing our paths to beginner’s luck or making one’s own luck, we have a myriad of ways of expressing how unseen influences affect our lives.

The responses ranged from reinterpretations of familiar symbols, such as four-leaf clovers and rabbits' feet, to works that incorporate randomness and chance into how they’re made, to work depicting how luck has intervened in the life of the artist.
