The Oriana Consort.

The Oriana Consort, a Cambridge-based chamber choir of 25 voices, plans to present a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Park Avenue Church UCC, 50 Paul Revere Road (entrance is at the corner of Park Avenue and Wollaston Street).

In its 28th season, Oriana has created a program titled “Troubled Waters: Choral Songs of Conflict and Resilience.”

Choral music across the centuries has reflected the timeless themes of struggle and conflict, organizers said – and it has also illustrated the human capacity for reconciliation and resilience.

This program will feature music both contemplative and uplifting – from Mendelssohn’s dramatic double-chorus setting of Psalm 2 (“Why do the nations rage?”), to the mournful yet sumptuous “Lamentations of Jeremiah” by Thomas Tallis, to Eriks Esenvalds’ evocative setting of a World-War-One-era poem by Sara Teasdale, to the collection of rousing African-American spirituals arranged by Moses Hogan.

Stirring works by Hildegard von Bingen, Raffaella Aleotti, Leonard Bernstein, Edwin Fissinger and Heinrich Schuetz will further enhance the program, a news release said.

Directing the concert will be Walter Chapin, Oriana’s founder and director, and Oriana member Andrea Hart, a resident of Arlington and an active performer, conductor and teacher.

This program is supported in part by a grant from Cambridge Arts, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.  These groups both are dedicated to the promotion and support of high-quality, community-based arts programming.

 Tickets at the door are $25  ($20 for students/seniors) and tickets can be purchased online at www.orianaconsort.org.
