SEEK PEACE: Park Ave. Congregational offers place to pray

Pray for Peace

In response to the deaths in Texas, Minnesota and Louisiana, the Rev. Jill Small is opening Park Avenue Congregational Church sanctuary at 12:30 p.m. for an hour, "so that you may come there to pray if you wish."

The interim minister wrote: "It's been a week filled with too many stories of fear, anger, pain and tears.

"The horrific story coming from Dallas is heartbreaking. Five police officers died, were murdered, protecting the freedoms of speech and assembly. Others are wounded. Their sacrifice is real, not just something on a video screen. I grieve for their families, friends and fellow officers."

In announcing an interfaith prayer service today at noon Dallas time, Mayor Mike Rawlings asked that people of faith join in prayer. That will be today at 1 p.m. EDT.

In addition this week, police shot black men to death in Baton Rouge, La., and a suburb of St. Paul, Minn.

The church is at Park and Wollaston avenues, Arlington Heights.
